Lee Jackson is a Political Science major at The University of Maine. Lee was born and raised in Maine and has lived in Old Town a majority of his life. In 2013, he was elected to represent the people of Old Town on the RSU #34 Board of Directors (Old Town School Board). Lee has served as a leader in #Gen207, the Maine Republican Party's youth initiative and has been named a "Rising Star" by the Republican National Committee. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Penobscot County Republican Committee.

A few weeks ago, the Maine Republican Party held the 2016 State Convention. A majority of the media coverage that came out of the weekend’s activities focused on the current presidential election with headlines containing terms such as: Cruz sweeps, LePage criticizes, etc. I find this to be unfortunate because while a considerable amount of energy was focused on the election of delegates to the Republican National Convention, I feel that the real winners of the Maine Republican Convention were State Senator Eric Brakey and Rick Bennett, chairman of the Maine Republican Party. Late last October,  a political pundit turned to me and said “You know the Democrats are struggling when they start campaigning on welfare reform.” Fast forward to November 4th, Governor LePage wins re-election, securing the most votes ever in a Maine gubernatorial election. Additionally, Republicans win the majority in the State Senate and make long strides in the House of Representatives.
