Bangor High School officials are investigating an allegation of an “inappropriate relationship” between a staff member and a student.

On Friday Bangor Superintendent James Tager announced in an email to the community that Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services and law enforcement have launched an investigation alongside school officials into an alleged inappropriate relationship between a staff member and student.

Tager said that the investigation began on Wednesday, immediately after school officials were made aware of the alleged relationship.

The identities of the individuals involved in this case are being kept confidential while the investigation is underway.

“At this stage, we are unable to provide specific details about the ongoing investigation or the individuals involved due to the legal and investigatory process that must take place outside of the school,” Tager said in Friday’s email.

“We are committed to respecting the privacy and rights of all parties involved while ensuring that the appropriate authorities handle this matter appropriately,” he said.

Tager emphasized that the safety and well-being of students is the first priority of the Bangor School Department.

“If any student feels the need to talk to someone or has any questions or concerns, we encourage you to reach out to a trusted teacher, counselor, social worker or administrator,” Tager said.
