The Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) branch in Scarborough will be closed starting on May 25 to allow for mold remediation and repair work, the Maine Secretary of State’s Office announced Friday.
The Scarborough BMV is expected to be closed for at least four weeks while the repair work is ongoing.
According to Maine Secretary of State’s Office, a roof drain above the BMV broke during a cold snap in February, sending water “cascading into the interior of the branch.”
There has not been any threat to the health of the branch’s staff or customers, a Secretary of State’s Office spokesperson said.
The branch was previously temporarily closed for about 10 days at the start of May 2023 for mold remediation — work that will be resumed during the coming closure “to ensure a continued safe and healthy environment for customers and staff,” the spokesperson added.
Nearby Maine BMV branches in Portland, Springvale, Kennebunkport and Topsham will remain open for walk-in and appointment services during the Scarborough branch’s closure.
