The ouster of the Dancing With The Stars hostess from Maine has been selected as one of the popular show’s anniversary top meltdown moments.
People magazine just picked the ouster of Erin Andrews as one of the Top Ten Most Shocking Moments of the show’s 20-year history.
And Andrews wasn’t just any hostess getting the boot – besides being born in the Pine Tree State, she’s the daughter of a former Maine radio and TV anchor.
Steve Andrews began his broadcast career in 1973 in Lewiston radio, while also working as a part-time TV reporter.
Andrews then moved on to anchor for Portland station WGME-TV. He retired five years ago from big-market WFLA in Tampa after 35 years there.
Though he was a superb anchor – one of the best in WGME’s history and later on WFLA – his career is chopped liver compared to his daughter’s.
That is until she got summarily canned by the ABC network’s popular try-your-hand-at-dancing program.
Erin was born in Lewiston in 1978 during an era when her dad was anchoring the news out of Portland.
The old man, who quickly moved on to much bigger TV markets, is a six-time Emmy Award winner.
His daughter eclipsed him in fame, however – partly for getting fired from Dancing With The Stars.
Erin’s also spend a lot of years doing NFL football broadcasting but it was her DWTS ouster that got the most headlines.
She and co-host Tom Bergeron were fired in 2020 – the same year her father retired – due to what ABC called its need for a “fresh, new creative direction.”
DWTS debuted in 2005 and among its dance contestants was actually Erin Andrews, who later became a host for five years.
