At approximately 4:50 p.m., the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department responded to a reported assault at a residential group home in Hermon, allegedly carried out by an employee.

When deputies arrived, they determined that the injuries were serious enough to require the resident to be transported to a hospital for treatment.

The Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Division mounted an investigation into the alleged assault and eventually identified Innocent Muzungu, 26, of Bangor, as the suspect.

Muzungu was arrested on charges of endangering the welfare of a dependent person, a felony, assault, and obstructing the reporting of a crime.

He was transported to the Penobscot County Jail. It appears that he has since been released, as he no longer appears on the jail’s list of current inmates.

The Sheriff’s Department said that the investigation remains ongoing, but no further information will be released at this time.
