Democratic Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) was one of six Democrats to side with House Republicans to pass a resolution on Thursday condemning Vice President Kamala Harris for her failure as the Biden administration’s “Border Czar.”
The House Resolution, sponsored by GOP Conference Chair Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, was approved by 220-196 vote and comes as Republicans turn their attention towards Harris as the Democratic Party’s expected presidential nominee, after President Biden withdrew from the race this past weekend.
“No matter what congressional district you go to, the number one issue facing Americans is Kamala Harris’ open border crisis,” Rep. Stefanik said on the House floor during debate on the resolution Thursday. “And by every metric, Kamala Harris has failed to secure our borders, instead advancing Far Left Democrats’ failed open border policies and the needs of illegal immigrants over the safety of Americans.”
“Kamala Harris has failed in overseeing American safety by refusing to secure the border,” Stefanik added. “She has proved that she is unfit to lead.”
The resolution, which opens by affirming that President Biden tapped Harris to “serve as the administration’s border czar” in March of 2021, launches several attacks against the vice president and now-candidate for president, including that it took Harris “93 days as the border czar before finally visiting the southern border on June 25, 2021,” and quotes former U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz has saying that he never had a conversation with Biden or Harris during his two years in the position.
Since the start of the Biden-Harris administration, the resolution claims, there have been over 9.7 million illegal immigrant encounters nationwide, and roughly two million known “gotaways” who evaded U.S. Border Patrol to enter the country illegally.
“President Biden’s and Border Czar Harris’s far left Democrat open border policies are to blame for this historic crisis,” the resolution states.
The resolution also argues that “the continuation of the Biden, Harris border policies would be disastrous for both the United States and the American people.”
Jared Golden was one of six Democratic “yea” votes on the resolution, siding with every Republican to pass the legislation.
The other House Democrats to vote in favor of the resolution were Reps. Yadira Caraveo (Colo.), Don Davis (N.C.), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Wash.), Henry Cuellar (Texas) and Mary Peltola (Alaska).

Golden’s congressional campaign account posted a statement to X on Thursday explaining his affirmative vote, writing that he “voted today to express that the Biden administration has failed to secure the border.”
“Vice Presidents execute the president’s agenda. I want to know how Harris, if she become POTUS, will address the crisis at the border. I look forward to hearing her plan,” Golden stated.
When Biden was still the presumptive nominee of his party, Golden predicted in an op-ed for a Bangor newspaper that Donald Trump would win the presidential election this November, and has stated that he’s unsure whether Vice President Harris could beat Trump, either.
Republican State Rep. Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, who is challenging Golden for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District seat this November, released a statement on Thursday claiming that Golden has “flip-flopped” on the issue of border security, and only voted in favor of the resolution out of desperation.
“Jared Golden has gone full Washington as he changes his positions in desperation to win in November,” Theriault said. “First, Golden flip-flopped on the border, then he took the position of every other slippery Washington politician who refuses to disclose who they’re supporting for president.”
“As I grew up in Fort Kent, I learned to put people over politics – and Jared Golden’s not doing that right now,” he added. “I’m running to bring more balance and less extremism to Congress.”
The Theriault campaign pointed to a vote that Golden made in 2019 in favor of an amendment that would have barred certain federal funds from being used to construct a border wall.

His ad sums it up everything he says in that ad is BS, he has no integrity or principles. What has he done for Maine? Nothing!! He has not had an original thought or submitted a bill yet.
