A Hermon resident was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident and leading police on a high-speed chase along I-95, Bangor Police said in a press release.

Bangor Police responded to a call at the Best Buy parking lot on Bangor Mall Blvd., where witnesses reported that a man had backed into another vehicle and attempted to leave without providing information.

Upon arrival, officers found the man, later identified at 64-year-old Everett Buzzell of Hermon, still inside his vehicle.

When questioned, Buzzell reportedly denied involvement in the accident.

Police say that as officers attempted to complete paperwork with Buzzell’s license and registration, he suddenly drove off, prompting a police pursuit.

The chase moved south on I-95, with speeds ranging between 60 and 80 mph.

Police say they eventually boxed in Buzzell’s vehicle, forcing it to stop near the Hammond Street overpass.

“Officers had to break out windows of his vehicle to remove Buzzell and take him into custody,” Bangor Police stated.
