Venezuelan Gang Attacks Texas Border Crossing Weeks Before Trump Takes Office: Report

Illegal immigrants from the violent Venezuelan Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang assaulted an El Paso, Texas, border crossing in December, armed with knives, tire irons, and liquor bottles, according to leaked documents provided to the New York Post.

According to an internal memo from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the assault involved as many as 20 illegal alien assailants.

Victor Avila, a retired Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agent, told The Post that TdA is directly assaulting border crossings to get as many gang members as possible into the country before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.

“You’re seeing that violence at the border because they know that it’s going to change in 27 days. It’s going to change. It’s going to be different, and they’re going to be sought after,” said Avila.

According to the post, Texas officials received an anonymous tip warning them that TdA intended to harm Texas National Guardsmen stationed at the crossings.

The anonymous source also allegedly told Texas officials that the gang plans to continue its violent attempts to storm border crossings every night at around 3 a.m.

The Post report did not mention whether any border guards have been injured or killed in TdA’s assaults or whether they have succeeded in repelling the attacks.

A different anonymous law enforcement source told The Post that the amount of gunfire at the Texas border has drastically increased in recent days, though they similarly provided no information on casualties.

TdA drew increasing attention throughout 2024, as the extent of its infiltration and the gravity of its crimes came to public attention.

Hundreds of gang members reportedly infiltrated New York City under the Biden Administration, and according to U.S. Army documents uncovered by investigative journalist James O’Keefe, were authorized to attack U.S. officials.

The violent gang members working in New York actively recruit children from the city’s migrant shelters, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).

That same report claimed that the gang was responsible for an August attack on a Texas Air Force base.

TdA also made headlines last June after the gang reportedly seized control of the 99-unit Aspen Grove apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) officially designated the gang as a foreign terrorist organization in September and established a task force specifically dedicated to combating their activities in Texas.

“We will not let them use Texas as a base of operations to terrorize our citizens. They have a target on their back, and we are going after them. Texas is the wrong state for them to try to do business in,” said Gov. Abbot.

While President Joe Biden has actively worked against Texas’s attempts to secure the border, even taking the state to court for trying to enforce its laws, President Trump has promised to stop illegal immigration and deport those already in the country illegally.
