A homeless man is facing a dozen counts of aggravated reckless conduct with a firearm for allegedly firing a handgun toward homes in Benton, Maine State Police announced on Tuesday.
Maine State Police say that troopers responded to the area of Unity Road in Benton at about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday after multiple 911 calls reporting that a man was walking down the road recklessly firing a pistol, including toward homes.
Troopers quickly located the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Joseph Costa, and detained him without incident
Police say Costa is currently “unhoused” and was found to be in possession of a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Costa was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, and was later transported to the Kennebec County Jail, where he was booked on 12 counts of aggravated reckless conduct with a firearm and one count of discharging a firearm near a dwelling.
Costa was denied bail and is waiting his initial court appearance.
According to police, no injuries were reporting during the incident.

Where doe’s a homeless person come up with the 4to5 hundred bucks for a 9mm handgun? Never mind the ammo. I believe it will be revealed as stolen property.
