Ogunquit police officers will be wearing new “LGBTQ+ pride patches” throughout June for “Pride Month,” which is typically celebrated through corporate and government publicity activities, parades, and a variety of public events that promote alternative sexual lifestyles.

“We are dedicated to celebrating diversity and fostering an environment of acceptance and understanding. Our department values the opportunity to show solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and to promote a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all,” Ogunquit Police Chief John Lizanecz in a Facebook post.

According to Chief Lizanecz’s post, every officer agreed voluntarily to wear the new pride patches.

The patch depicts the Ogunquit Police Department’s seal on a rainbow background.

Lizanecz claimed that the patches will “contribute to a more open and supportive community for everyone.”

Ogunquit is a hub for pride-themed events. This June’s Ogunquit Pride schedule includes numerous events throughout the first week of June, including a Pride Drag Brunch, which will be open to children.

Notably, some events, such as “Dueling Drag Divas,” are restricted by age and will not allow children.
