A person was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed multiple times near Main Street in South Portland on Wednesday.

According to South Portland Police, officers responded to the 800 block of Main Street on Wednesday for a report of an aggravated assault.

At the scene, officers found an individual suffering from numerous stab wounds.

The individual was given medical aid and was transported to the hospital. Police say the injuries to the individual found at the scene do not appear life-threatening.

The suspected assailant was reported to police to be in the nearby woods.

Both South Portland Police and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office K9 teams, as well as a Scarborough Police drone team responded to search the area, resulting in the suspect being located a short time later.

According to police, both the individuals involved in the alleged stabbing knew each other, and it was not a random incident.

Police say the incident is still under investigation, and that further information will be released if charges are brought against either individual.
