When deputies arrived, they discovered evidence of a suspicious man wandering around the area. A resident living nearby the victim whose car was stolen identified Travis Wakefield, 35, of Lyman, as showing up at his house and asking for a ride.
A friend of the victim called him to ask why the stolen vehicle was on Green Street in Biddeford, leading deputies to respond to the location.
When deputies arrived at Green Street, they found Wakefield walking away from the stolen vehicle.
Deputies took Wakefield into custody and charged him with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
According to the York County Sheriff’s Department, Wakefield had a suspended driver’s license and was under bail conditions from multiple previous arrests. He is currently being held without bail.

Wakefield appears to have a lengthy history of alleged criminal activity. In 2021, the Maine State Police arrested him on an outstanding burglary arrest warrant.

According to Recently Booked, Wakefield was arrested in May of this year on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence, obstruction of justice, and theft, though the Maine Wire could not independently verify that information.
