The Rangeley Police Department arrested a 14-year-old boy on Monday in connection with a Fire Marshal’s Office investigation into multiple small fires at a vacant Rangeley home.

The Fire Marshal’s Office began the investigation on Friday after the Rangeley Fire and Police Departments reported multiple fires at 50 Pleasant Street, a one- and two-story home with an attached garage.

Police arrived to discover that the vacant home, owned by a Massachusetts resident, had been entered and ransacked. There was also evidence of multiple intentionally set small fires.

The Fire Marshal’s investigation revealed that the small fires had self-extinguished and caused minimal damage.

On Monday, investigators gathered enough evidence to establish probable cause to arrest the 14-year-old suspect, who was at the time out on supervised release from a prior offense.

Investigators determined that the minor was allegedly involved in a fire at Rangeley’s Saddleback View Apartments on August 9.

He now faces charges for arson and was transported to the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.
