The Rumford Police Department arrested an alleged package thief on Friday after he was caught on camera apparently stealing two packages off a porch in broad daylight.

Rumford police issued a release Friday night, including video footage of the alleged theft from the home’s security camera, and asking the public for assistance in identifying the “porch pirate.”

The suspect was wearing black pants, white sneakers, and a black hoodie with a prominent white Adidas logo on the front.

Officers canvassed the area, interviewing community members. With help from locals and the video footage, police identified the suspect as Kenneth Armstrong, 35, of Maine Avenue, Rumford.

Oxford County Sheriff’s Deputy helped Rumford police secure Armstrong’s apartment.

Officers entered the building after making contact with its owner and entered Armstrong’s apartment.

When inside, officers allegedly discovered Armstrong hiding under a pile of clothing and bedding.

Armstrong was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Oxford County Jail. He faces charges of theft by unauthorized taking and violating conditions of release.

Police also recovered the two allegedly stolen packages.

He was arrested last summer in Rumford on theft charges, then arrested again months later on charges of failing to appear in court.
