The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office, working alongside the Portland Fire Department, is continuing its investigation into a Friday evening fire that tore through buildings at 25 and 27 Custom House Wharf.

The blaze caused significant damage to multiple sections of the attached structures, including storage and maintenance areas used by fishermen and lobstermen, trap repair shops, and waterfront businesses such as Nanuq Kayak and Maritime Antiques. The Sea Bag Factory Store was also impacted, though officials say the full extent of the damage has not yet been determined.

First reported at 5:30 pm on Friday, firefighters had the blaze under control within hours.

No injuries were reported. The Harbor Fish market did not sustain fire damage, though the business was affected by the investigation and has since reopened.

Fire Marshal investigators and Portland firefighters returned to the scene Saturday to conduct interviews with witnesses and occupants and to collect video evidence. Officials say there is no indication of foul play, and due to the severity of the damage, it is unlikely investigators will be able to determine an exact cause.

The investigation remains ongoing, with officials expected to continue reviewing video and gathering additional information over the coming days.
