A Harrison man was taken into custody Thursday after leading police on a lengthy high-speed chase that began in Maine and continued across state lines into New Hampshire, authorities said.
According to police, the pursuit began when officers attempted to stop a vehicle in Maine on Thursday afternoon. The driver refused to pull over, accelerating instead and prompting a multi-agency response as speeds climbed and the chase moved through several communities.
Maine State Police said troopers pursued the vehicle as it headed toward the New Hampshire border, where additional law enforcement agencies joined the effort. Authorities said the driver continued at high speeds after crossing into New Hampshire, creating what officials described as a dangerous situation for other motorists.
The chase eventually came to an end when officers were able to stop the vehicle safely. The driver was taken into custody without further incident. Police identified him as a man from Harrison and said he faces multiple charges related to the pursuit, including offenses connected to fleeing law enforcement.
Authorities said no serious injuries were reported, though several police cruisers and civilian vehicles were put at risk during the pursuit. The case remains under investigation, and officials said additional charges may be considered as agencies review the full sequence of events.
Police did not release further details about the initial reason for the attempted stop, but said more information will be made public as the investigation proceeds.
