AUGUSTA, Maine — Janet Mills announced Monday that she will deliver her State of the State address to a joint convention of the Legislature in the House chamber on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at 7 p.m.
Mills was invited by the Legislature’s presiding officers, Senate President Mattie Daughtry and House Speaker Ryan Fecteau. Copies of the invitation and the governor’s acceptance letter were released.
In what will be her final State of the State address, Mills plans to thank Mainers for the opportunity to serve and outline what she says is progress made in recent years. The governor is also expected to address ongoing challenges facing the state, including high costs, and to highlight her administration’s efforts to hold down expenses by maintaining a commitment to fund 55 percent of education costs and provide full revenue sharing to municipalities, among other items.
“I am proud of the progress we have made together, but, as we all know, there are still many challenges ahead. Maine people are struggling to get by, and by working together, we can take action to help them and make life more affordable for folks across our state,” Mills wrote in her letter. “I look forward to addressing the Joint Convention of the Legislature and to working with lawmakers during the upcoming session.”
The governor’s office said additional logistical details about the address will be released in the days leading up to Jan. 27.
