Democrat Graham Platner mistakenly thought he made points Tuesday countering Janet Mills’ attack ad.
The otherwise-usually-charming U.S. Senate hopeful looked absolutely impotent, even forlorn, at his own news conference.
And where was his wife when he needed her most? Apparently among the missing…
Platner apparently thought the way to reply to a recent Graham-is-pro-rape fusillade from his primary opponent was to get a bunch of gals standing behind a lectern talking about what a great friend to women he is.
But he failed to include his wife in the lineup.
Platner looked uncharacteristically nervous, and downright scared, lurking on the sidelines as his hired female firing squad touted his alleged virtues.
State Rep. Valli Geiger of Rockland spent so much time at the mic – in love with the sound of her own voice – it looked like she were the candidate.
Platner, who has been doing well in polls pitting him against the two-term governor, should have stood up at that mic and pounded his first on the podium.
He should have told women afraid that Janet’s misogynistic portrayal of him as a sexual sadist may ring true that he’s downright offended by such juvenile mud slinging.
“My opponent is panicking because she sees the polls.”
Unfortunately that’s not what he said. That’s what he should have said.
Where is Platner’s wife through all this?
Why wasn’t – and isn’t – she standing by her man, banging her fist on the table saying “I know this man’s heart. Graham is nothing of what Janet Mills claims.”
Amy Gertner was bold enough amid her IVF-treatment announcement two months ago to tell a TV camera that her husband has “great sperm.”
So if Gertner has the gonads to say that, why isn’t she front and center now defending the guy who’s looking like a beached sperm whale in what might be the most critically important fight he wages during this campaign?
He needs a Tammy Wynette moment.
“Tell the world you love him, stand by your man.” – Tammy Wynette
