The State Police Major Crimes Unit arrested Edward Longley, 30, of Skowhegan, at approximately 2:14 p.m. on Wednesday on charges of murder and elevated aggravated assault.

He was charged following an investigation into a February 2 shooting on Flagg Street in Augusta.

During that shooting, Billyjack Curtis, 51, of Augusta, and Sherry Gilley, 40, of Brunswick, were hit.

Gilley was transported to MaineGeneral in Augusta and transferred to the Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment. She is recovering and has since been released from the hospital.

Curtis tragically died, and an autopsy from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta confirmed the cause of death to be gunshot wounds and the manner of death to be homicide.

Longley was transported to the Somerset County Jail and is being held without bail.

Police say that no further details will be released at this time, and they did not indicate a potential motive for the alleged murder.
