By Jim Deyermond, Chairman, Maine Republican Party.

A spirited primary is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of a healthy party.

This year, eight Republicans are running for governor, and Maine voters are witnessing a lively primary. Primaries are where parties test ideas, compare records, and decide who is best prepared to lead. We have a diverse set of professional backgrounds and styles of leadership, and that is something to celebrate.

The Maine Republican Party looks forward to all the upcoming debates and other opportunities for Maine Republicans to choose their candidates.

Republicans can and should fight hard for their vision. Differences will be aired, contrasts will be made, and voters will decide who our strongest candidate is. That is how the process works.

But we must remember one thing: unity after the primary is what wins elections.

Every candidate in this race shares the same larger goal: offering Maine a better path forward. We all want stronger communities, a better economy, more accountable government, and a future that works for Maine families.

In June, Republican voters will choose our nominee. When they do, that candidate will be our champion, and the party will rally behind him.

That is why, after the primary, the Maine GOP will host an event bringing together all of the Republican candidates and their campaigns to unite behind the winner. The time for competition is before the primary. The time for unity is after.

Make no mistake: the Maine Republican Party will bring people together to win in November, up and down the entire ticket and across all of Maine.

For Maine,
Jim Deyermond
