President Donald J. Trump said the United States has beaten and “completely decimated” Iran militarily, economically, and “in every other way,” while also urging nations that depend on oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz to take greater responsibility for protecting the vital global shipping lane.
Trump made the remarks in a statement in which he said countries that receive oil through the narrow waterway must help ensure its security, adding that the United States would assist in coordinating those efforts.

“The United States of America has beaten and completely decimated Iran, both Militarily, Economically, and in every other way, but the Countries of the World that receive Oil through the Hormuz Strait must take care of that passage, and we will help — A LOT!” Trump said. “The U.S. will also coordinate with those Countries so that everything goes quickly, smoothly, and well.”
Trump added that protecting the passage should have always been an international responsibility.
“This should have always been a team effort, and now it will be, It will bring the World together toward Harmony, Security, and Everlasting Peace!” Trump said.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most strategically important waterways in the world. Located between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, the narrow passage serves as the primary route for oil exports from several major energy-producing countries in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.
Because so much of the world’s energy supply passes through the strait, disruptions to shipping in the area can have immediate global consequences. Oil tankers carrying millions of barrels of crude oil pass through the channel each day on their way to markets in Asia, Europe, and beyond.
The narrow geography of the strait has long made it a focal point of geopolitical tension. At its narrowest point, the shipping lanes used by tankers are only a few miles wide, making the area particularly sensitive to military conflict, blockades, or other disruptions.
For decades, the United States and its allies have maintained a military presence in the region to help ensure freedom of navigation and the continued flow of energy supplies through the corridor. Any threat to the strait is widely viewed as a potential risk to the stability of global energy markets.
Trump’s comments highlight the continued strategic importance of the passage and the role it plays not only in Middle Eastern geopolitics but also in the broader global economy. By calling on countries that benefit from the oil shipments to share responsibility for securing the waterway, Trump suggested a more coordinated international effort to protect one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints.
