The wife of Democrat U.S. Senate contender Graham Platner – potentially his best defender against a new anti-women campaign assault – has mysteriously disappeared when Platner needs her most.
The question is “Where In The World Is Amy Gertner?”
Last we heard from Gertner was two long months ago when she announced a fertility journey that would take her and Graham to the country of Norway for IVF treatments.
The trip’s announcement from Gertner and her Senate-hopeful husband came amid a campaign ad in which she famously touted his “great sperm.”
But since then we’ve heard nothing from her.
Gertner was notably conspicuous by her absence from a recent news conference in which Platner was trying to defend his record with women.
Perhaps the one time he needs her most – fighting back against a vicious ad from primary opponent Janet Mills – Gertner is nowhere to be found.
The term-limited governor had put out an ad blasting Platner for allegedly having once blamed women for their own rapes.
Platner threw a gauntlet of his female pals up behind a lectern to plead his case – but his wife was not among them.
Plattner’s wife somehow decided two months ago that the two of them needed to appeal to the women’s vote, so they made the ad about their fertility problems – and his “great sperm.”
Clearly they understood that they were going to need women voters if they are to declare victory over their female opponent.
They not only made the ad, but they went to a favorable legacy newspaper in Rockland, persuading the editor to run a puff piece about their sympathy for women who can’t get pregnant.
So they were far from hiding. In fact they were as public as could be – most notably Amy Gertner who was campaigning for no other reason than to attract women for her husband’s Senate race.
But suddenly – no Amy. Not since two months ago and the great sperm.
No Amy when the most critical moment of her husband’s campaign arose recently in the wake of the Janet Mills ad blasting him for his alleged sexual insensitivity towards women.
The Maine Wire has reached out to the Platner campaign asking “Where Is Amy Gertner?”
So far no response.
”Thank you for contacting Graham,” is what we got back. “We read every email.”
Reading – but refusing to respond to – emails doesn’t cut it for a campaign in crisis.
Platner needs to explain why his wife is suddenly missing from his campaign for “women’s rights.”
