The Rockland Police Department arrested a Warren man on Sunday after he allegedly tried to force a driver off the road, seemingly without motive.

Law enforcement received multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle operating erratically and traveling at high speeds.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., Rockland officers spotted the vehicle allegedly driving into oncoming traffic in an attempt to recklessly pass another driver despite a double yellow line.

Officers then pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as Michael Canfield, 29, of Warren.

Further investigation reportedly revealed that Canfield had tried to force another driver off the road “at random” earlier in the day.

Police also learned that Canfield had allegedly led law enforcement in the area on a short pursuit earlier this month that traveled through Rockland, though that incident is being investigated by the department in whose jurisdiction the pursuit allegedly began, and charges are pending.

The Rockland Police arrested Canfield on charges of reckless conduct and driving to endanger.

He remained incarcerated at the Knox County Holding Facility as of Monday afternoon.

There is a Warner sex offender by the same name, whose age appears to match Canfield’s and who is listed on the registry following a conviction for unlawful sexual contact.
