Federal fisheries officials are putting together a DIY brochure on aquaculture for ‘Platner wannabes.’
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association officials announced they’re helping budding aquaculturists on the West Coast get into sea farming.
They’re helping growers navigate state, federal, and local aquaculture permitting – the same kind of stuff Graham Platner knows first-hand.
“Starting an aquaculture farm is a complicated process,” NOAA said. “Future farmers need to select species and gear, create a business plan, acquire space, and consider and mitigate environmental impacts. They also need to secure permits.”
NOAA said its aquaculture-education program “is geared toward people wanting to learn about permitting oysters, mussels, clams, or geoduck farms.”
A perfect opportunity for oyster king Graham Platner – aqua-farming consultant!
Not that Graham needs a job, at least not according to the Maine polls showing him light years ahead of Gov. Janet Mills in the Democrat U.S. Senate primary race.
The term-limited governor actually may be the one soon needing a paycheck but her family is more versed in starting marijuana farms than floating oyster flats.
