The embattled Janet Mills primary campaign for U.S. Senate says Democrat leader Chuck Schumer has done nothing to help her campaign.
That’s according to The Washington Post, which reports that Sen. Schumer has gone south on poor Janet due to her failure to catch fire in Maine.
Schumer initially got behind Mills as his candidate of choice over Graham Platner but she’s been lagging far behind despite party leadership claiming she’s the best bet against Republican Susan Collins.
The Post says Janet’s negative ads against Platner have fallen flat, that he remains far ahead in the polls.
“One recent poll conducted by a firm that also works for the committee that elects Senate Democrats found her lagging behind Platner by nearly 40 percentage points,” says Politics & Poll Tracker.
“Mills’ team believed an outside Democratic group would come in and help the governor blanket the airwaves to take down Platner, and have been disappointed that help has yet to come,” the Post reports.
“‘If you take Schumer at his word, and he was really high on Janet, then why wouldn’t they be in Maine in the beginning of the quarter? It boggles my mind,’ said one person close to her campaign.”
As of Thursday, Mills was running no TV ads at all, and her campaign declined to say whether she would re-up the attacks or switch strategies, the Post said.
