The suspect arrested in relation to a Monday night mass shooting in Philadelphia that left five people dead and two wounded has been identified as a Black Lives Matter supporter and a man who wears women’s clothes.
The suspected gunman, 40-year-old Kimbrady Carriker, faces more than 30 counts, including murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and carrying a firearm without a permit.
Multiple children were wounded in Tuesday’s shooting, including a 2-year-old who was shot four times in the legs. One of the five deceased victims was 15-year-old Daujan Brown.
Carriker has a criminal record, having been charged with possession of a weapon without a license, carrying a firearm in public and drug possession in 2003 which led to probation, according to Philadelphia court records.
On Carriker’s Facebook page, he has posted images wearing a bra, earrings, and a women’s tank top.
Initial police reports referred to the suspected gunman as a 40-year-old male, but District Attorney Larry Krasner said in a press conference Tuesday that DA’s office will be using “they/them” pronouns to refer to the suspect based on the “information that we have at this time.”
In 2020, Carriker posted a video to his Facebook page of a burning Philadephia police car with “ACAB” (“all cops are b—rds”) graffiti spray painted on it, captioning the post: “I was there; where were you? #we matter.”
Tina Rosette, Carriker’s former roommate, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Carriker was “really smart, intelligent, creative,” and loved computers.
Rosette, 49, said that Carriker did have an “aggressive approach to some things in life,” adding that he had sometimes taught young people how to fight, “purportedly in self-defense.”
Tina’s daughter, 24-year-old Cianni Rosette who also lived with Carriker, told the Inquirer that Carriker showed her a handgun several times, and “was trying to get me comfortable around guns and stuff like that.”
Cianni Rosette described Carriker as someone who was occasionally difficult to talk to, aloof and easy to anger, and at one point had tried to initiate a romantic relationship with her, and was “pushy” about it.
Tina Rosette told the Inquirer that she and her daughter moved out about a year ago, saying that Carriker was in a “dark place,” but that she was not sure why.
According to police, the gunman was wearing a bulletproof vest and a ski mask, and was armed with an AR-style rife, a pistol, extra magazines and a police scanner.
The gunman had fired at police over the course of a chase spanning several blocks before being cornered and surrendering in an alley, Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said in a press conference Tuesday.
“On what was supposed to be a beautiful summer evening, this armed and armored individual wreaked havoc, firing with a rifle at their victims seemingly at random,” Outlaw said Tuesday.
The Police Commissioner asked for patience as they investigate the shooting, and praised the bravery of the officers who tended to the victims and those who “fearlessly ran toward the sounds of gunfire” to apprehend the shooter.
“Their swift actions undoubtedly saved lives,” she said.
Following the shooting, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney called for something to be done about “America’s gun problem.”
“A person walking down the city street with an AR-style rifle and shooting randomly at people while wearing a bulletproof vest with multiple magazines is a disgraceful but all-too-common situation in America,” Kenney said. “I was today at Independence Hall where they wrote that Constitution, and the 2nd Amendment was never intended to protect this.”
Kenney tweeted on July 4 that “This country must re-examine its conscience and figure out how to get guns out of dangerous hands.”
“We are begging Congress to protect lives and do something about America’s gun problem,” he said.

What does the shooter of 5 people have to do with him being a cross dresser or a member of BLM? What type of journalist are you? What are you implying that all BLM supporter’s are killers? Are you “Homophobic”? What do you have against the LGBTQ community? This article was trash! Nothing you reported had any correlation as to why this person shot 7 people and took the lives of 5 innocent individuals!

He claimed to have joined a protest one time. Where does he claim to support BLM? We have one photo of him playing around in women’s clothing one time; where do you get from that to him being a cross-dresser? This isn’t journalism. We’ve got actual Tweets of his stating he is a Tucker Carlson fan and that he was a biblical extremist, but you’ve suspiciously left those verified details out, in favour of wild assumptions.
