Jared Golden Among 31 Democrats who Voted Against Expelling George Santos from Congress

Democratic U.S. Congressman from Maine’s 2nd District Jared Golden joined 31 of his fellow House Democrats Wednesday in voting against a resolution to expel New York Republican Rep. George Santos from Congress.

The House voted 179-213 to reject the resolution brought against Rep. Santos by a group of Republicans in the New York delegation, as he faces a 23-count federal indictment on charges of conspiracy, wire fraud, making false statements and falsifying records to the FEC, identity theft, money laundering, and more.

The newly-elected Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., has said Santos deserves his day in court.

“We have to allow due process to play itself out, that’s what our system of justice is for,” the House Speaker told Fox News host Sean Hannity in a recent interview.

Santos has denied the allegations against him, and told reporters when leaving the Capitol Wednesday “I will continue to serve the 3rd Congressional District of New York until the people choose to not have me.”

Just 24 Republicans joined the 155 Democrats who voted in favor of ousting Santos — far short of the amount of defections needed to pass the required two-thirds threshold.

Rep. Golden has recently received praise from several of his fellow Democrats for reversing his position on an assault weapon ban in the wake of the Lewiston mass shooting.

Fellow Maine Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree commended Golden for the flip-flop, and progressive New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called the move “Powerful, brave, and moving.”

The Bangor Daily News, which has reported heavily on the allegations against Santos and published numerous opinion pieces on the matter, has not reported on Golden voting against expelling the New York Republican from Congress.

WMTW, an outlet which also devoted several articles to covering the latest in the Santos debacle, republished a story from the Associated Press regarding the expulsion resolution but did not mention Rep. Golden’s vote.

Golden supports a liar and a known criminal who deceived the public to get elected and flip flops on the gun issue when it clearly wasn’t the guns fault. Blame current laws on the books for being to vague, enforcement and the medical world for poor practices maybe, society for breaking down and loosing God and faith, or wish one person had been carrying a pistol and shot the guy when he walked through the door with that gun. All l have heard from people since this happened is how they need to start carrying all the time again as our society is no longer safe and it can happen anytime, anywhere.
