A man was shot and killed by police in Lincoln after allegedly trying to attack officers with a knife.

Officers responded to a trespassing complaint at 7 Whalen St. shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Lincoln Police said in a press release.

According to police, the complainant reported that Derek Beach, 37, was at the residence in defiance of a protection from abuse order.

Police say Beach also had bail conditions that barred him from returning from the residence at the time of the complaint.

Upon arrival at the Whalen Street residence, attempts by the responding officers to negotiate with Beach were unsuccessful, leading to Beach being tased.

Beach then allegedly lunged at the officers with a knife.

Sgt. Michael Winslow and Officer Kristofer Milner of Lincoln Police shot Beach, who was later pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Both Winslow and Milner were place on administrative leave in accordance with standard protocol in cases of use of deadly force by law enforcement.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office will be responsible for investigating the use of deadly force by the officers.

Those protection orders are not worth the paper they are written on. A perfect example of why the 72 hour waiting period will kill innocent people.

Just like the Democratic members of congress, who yell and scream in the street, Beach had no respect for the LAW. Watters can get away with this behavior, Beach could not.
