Former U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard said Wednesday that “woke” doctors who are “mutilating” minors should lose their medical licenses, be cut off from federal funding, and sent to prison.
Although Gabbard doesn’t specify which procedures she’s talking about, it’s pretty clear the tweet is aimed at doctors who perform surgeries related to gender transitions. Such surgeries have exploded in popularity in the last decade, with many cosmetic surgeons in the country specializing in so-called “gender affirming care.”
Gabbard, a former Democrat from Hawaii and a candidate for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, has regularly drawn attention for opinions that deviate from traditional Democratic Party platform. She officially left the party last month, posting a video to YouTube in which she excoriated her former colleagues.
The strong rhetoric from Gabbard comes as she’s promoting The Tulsi Gabbard Show, a podcast. More than one online commenter has questioned the rapidity with which Gabbard’s opinions on controversial topics have changed.
