The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office arrested a Howland woman for arson on Friday following an extensive investigation into a 2022 fire at a convenience store.

On the night of November 22, 2022, firefighters responded to reports of a blaze at the Howland Corner Store in Howland.

Firefighters observed an active fire, and signs of rapid fire development shortly after the store closed for the night.

The Fire Marshal’s Office mounted a years-long criminal and financial investigation that eventually led to arson charges for Samantha Randall, 39, of Howland.

She was arrested on Friday, and additional arrests or charges are expected to follow.
