The Biden Admin announced on Monday that it is awarding millions of dollars in taxpayer funding to help Maine defend against the weather.
“America’s coastal communities are on the frontlines of climate change—and we can tap into the power of nature to deal with sea level rise, storms, and erosion,” said Director of the White House office of Science and Technology Policy Arati Prabhakar, “Through President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda, we are taking historic action to meet the climate crisis and build a more resilient future for all.”
The announcement came as part of a national Earth Day campaign to award states money for “climate resilience” projects through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act.
Maine will receive $10.5 million in federal funds to be spent on projects in York, Cumberland, and Washington counties.
The funds are intended to be used to replace infrastructure along the coast, and to upgrade fisheries and marshlands to defend them from storms and water levels which will allegedly rise due to climate change.
“The recent severe storms have been a wake-up call about how vulnerable Maine communities are to effects of climate change, and how critical investments in resiliency are needed to protect our vulnerable areas, especially along the coast,” said Director of the Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future Hannah Pingree,”These awards through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will help protect vulnerable coastal areas in four Maine communities and improve their resilience to climate impacts like extreme storms and sea level rise.”
Funds will support projects to restore Scarborough Marsh, replace culvert pipes in Brunswick, and construct a new bridge in Wells.
The $10.5 million in grants for Maine are a portion of the $123 million awarded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) on Monday to 30 similar projects across the country.
Climate initiatives have become a top issue in Maine, with Gov. Janet Mills (D-Maine) and many other Democrats pushing forward with controversial renewable energy projects, and many calling for increased “climate resilience” citing fears that the state’s coastlines will shrink due to rising sea levels.
Two severe storms over the winter, which led to widespread power outages and flooding, have amplified climate fears, fueling concerns that the ocean will swallow up large parts of the state’s coastline.
The new funding for resilience adds to funding already provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) meant to aid in reconstruction following the winter storms.
Recently, The Maine Wire found FEMA trucks parked near the coast.
It is unclear exactly what service the taxpayer funded FEMA trucks were actually providing.
Just watch this will turn out like the billions + build back better, the one where they installed 1 EV charger for 10 billion $. Stand by York your sand bag should be here any day now.
Climate change is just a crock of manure the democrats are peddling. Their entire ideology is based on nothing but lies. And tens of millions of American fools believe every word of them. God help us.
Before millions more tax dollars are spent on the climate “issue,” there should be a public debate involving REAL, UNBIASED scientists with FACTS and no political agendas.
10.5 mil they don’t have. Oh I forgot, they own the press so they can print at will. The only problem here is the sea level hasn’t changed in centuries and temps are dropping not rising. See for yourself.
