A Portland man was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly threatening someone with a firearm and shooting into the ground, Portland Police announced on Monday.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Portland Police responded to a report of a male threatening someone with a gun in the area of Forest Avenue and Bedford Street.

Police say that they were able to track down the suspect on Fessenden Street within minutes based on a description.

Matthew Litka, 28, of Portland, was arrested and charged with criminal threatening and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

According to police, Litka was found in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest, and admitted to firing the gun into the ground.

He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
