A Portland man was arrested Sunday evening after allegedly threatening someone with a firearm and shooting into the ground, Portland Police announced on Monday.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Portland Police responded to a report of a male threatening someone with a gun in the area of Forest Avenue and Bedford Street.

Police say that they were able to track down the suspect on Fessenden Street within minutes based on a description.

Matthew Litka, 28, of Portland, was arrested and charged with criminal threatening and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

According to police, Litka was found in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest, and admitted to firing the gun into the ground.

He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Yes, that was reckless! It could have killed somebody in China after it transited through the earth! What was the other person doing to require this threatening action? You did not cover that part.
