Maine AG to State Employees: Do Not Cooperate with Justice Department Investigators

Maine’s Attorney General has instructed employees of at least one state agency to avoid cooperating with officials from the U.S. Department of Justice or the U.S. Attorney’s Office, according to a Jan. 10 email obtained by the Maine Wire.

“All DHHS Departments have received a directive from the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) advising staff that if an attorney, or anyone else, from the Department of Justice or the U.S. Attorney’s Office reach out looking to meet or seeking information, staff should not respond,” the author of the email said.

“Instead, they should forward the correspondence to their supervisor and the Superintendent’s office. The Superintendent’s office will then reach out to the appropriate Assistant Attorney General (AAG) to advise,” the email said.

“If the communication happens to occur over the phone, staff should tell the individual that they cannot provide information at this time and will need to speak with counsel first,” the email said.

The directive, which was provided by a recipient to State Rep. Barbara Bagshaw (R-Windham) and shown to the Maine Wire, appears to be applicable to all DHHS employees; however, the email above was distributed only to a subset of DHHS workers.

An official from Frey’s office did not respond to an email seeking comment regarding the directive.

The email is dated Jan. 10 — ten days before President Donald Trump was sworn in to begin his second term in office.

The email suggests Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey (D) was anticipating that the incoming Trump Administration and a potential new U.S. Attorney for the District of Maine, appointed by Trump rather than his predecessor, would be conducting an investigation that might ensnare Maine’s largest department of state government.

The email also suggests that Frey was looking to obstruct or complicate whatever investigations might be coming down the pike, or at the very least, prevent potential whistleblowers from cooperating with the Trump Administration.

Since his inauguration, the Trump Administration has launched a full court press against left-wing state governments for defying federal law, as well as unprecedented investigations into fraudulent government spending.

The new Department of Justice, headed up by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, has also shown a willingness to enforce the laws against top ranking state officials.

On Feb. 12 the DOJ filed a lawsuit against New York State, Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), Attorney General Letitia James (D), and Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Mark Schroeder (D).

The lawsuit challenges New York’s “Green Light Law,” which permits undocumented immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses and restricts the sharing of DMV information with federal immigration authorities without a judicial warrant.

The DOJ contends that this law undermines federal immigration enforcement and violates the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

In addition to the activities of the DOJ, the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed up by billionaire Elon Musk, has been rattling the cages of government-funded nonprofits and other beneficiaries of federal government spending.

AG Frey, stay out of this matter. The Federal Government is in charge now. Stop wasting my taxpayer money on your political hacks and wasteful lawsuits. You and your AG friends just got slapped down by a DC judge so sit this one out.

This is a standard procedure for most big companies, usually it’s not necessary to remind employees of this policy but since most of the government in Augusta are DEI hires, mentally challenged or democrats the memo was imperative. Kind of surprised it wasn’t written in crayon.

Selected not elected. DEI hires for sure. Normalizing alcohol, drug and perverted sexual addictions. Stupid spending on stupid hoaxes and ideologies. Deliberately stupid overpriced government indoctrination centers for children to be sexually exploited. Inviting illegal aliens to overwhelm our state w/crime, drugs, lay abouts and SLAVE labor. That is how lucifer got a stronghold in our state.
Here comes the cavalry, Homan, Noem, Bondi, Musk and many other warriors in the full armor of God.

Aaron M. Frey (born c. 1978)[1] is an American lawyer and politician serving as the 58th Attorney General of Maine since 2019. He formerly served as a Democratic representative in the Maine House of Representatives. He is currently being investigated by his own party for a sexual relationship with a married direct subordinate as well as his delayed disclosure of the issue.

That’s exactly how it is legally supposed to happen. These staff members do not take orders from DOJ but from their supervisors. But none of you are concerned about upholding the law.

Hey dumbass. We are not talking about taking orders. Frey stated if you are contacted by the feds, direct them to your supervisor, you can’t talk to them. Guess mike is okay with censoring people in case the truth gets out. Outside of confidential information, hipaa I.E. where dose this F stick get off telling people who they can and can’t talk to. FU Frey your day is coming.

Entering the US illegally is a felony, attempting to hinder the apprehension of felons is also a felony. Any official hindering investigations should be immediately handcuffed and sent to Texas to await a trial – without bail. The precedent has been set.

Why does the photo of the email stop at the word “Best” at the bottom and does not include the name that would logically follow that salutation? I can only assume that the name is Frey, but perhaps it is but one of his minions.
Next question: who do the people of the State of Maine wish to support, Mills picked Frey or Nationally elected President Trump?

  26. axylos on February 19, 2025 10:34 AM

I have watched Maine go down the toilet for the last 15+ years and it is a shame. I do not just blame the liberal-communist out of staters, but the Mainers themselves for this debacle. Mainers have sat on their collective a$$es and let this happen. Once I retire the wife and I are going to snowbird and live in a tax free state 6 months and a day so we don’t get raped by the communists of this state.

  27. Despicable Maine on February 19, 2025 10:36 AM

So Maine’s Attorney General, Aaron Frey, is essentially telling state employees to stonewall the DOJ and the U.S. Attorney’s Office? That’s not just pathetic—it’s an obvious cover-up. If there was nothing shady going on, why go to such lengths to block federal investigators? This isn’t about protecting state employees; it’s about keeping skeletons buried and making sure whistleblowers stay silent. The fact that this directive was sent just days before Trump’s second term began makes it clear Frey knew what was coming. Corrupt politicians always panic when real oversight is on the horizon.

  28. Steve on February 19, 2025 12:13 PM

Time for Maine’s Attorney General find out what happens to corrupt members of the government who try to stage a coup…

  29. Paul Ackerman on February 19, 2025 12:31 PM

A point mentioned in this article, “The directive, which was provided by a recipient to State Rep. Barbara Bagshaw (R-Windham) and shown to the Maine Wire, appears to be applicable to all DHHS employees; however, the email above was distributed only to a subset of DHHS workers. (bold-underline and italics mine) suggests one ought to warned that being only sent to a “subset” of DHHS employees that this may actually be a hidden way to expose leakers within a small group who are suspected of exposing wrongdoing by state agencies.
Beyond that warning , it is painfully apparent that the incompetent Democrat radicals running the party now are deep into a campaign of “obstruction and resistance” to anything the Trump 2.0 administration does in a valiant attempt to correct the direction of the country.
In contrast to the dems bureaucratic pretzel making emails telling employees not to cooperate with Federal agencies, I applaud Tom Homan’s comment about the gratuitously stupid Colorado mayor who vowed to go to jail rather than cooperate with DHS/ICE in deporting illegal alien criminals; Homan said he would be happy to accommodate the mayor in his interest in going to jail.
What size orange jumpsuit does Aaron Frey need ?

  30. Bob on February 19, 2025 1:23 PM

Funny…….you would never, ever have to send an e-mail like this if you have nothing to hide. Hay, democrats, got anything we need to know about? Lol, sad what has happened to our state, “elections have consequences” and Maine is in trouble!

  31. Edward Allen Tharp on February 19, 2025 1:48 PM

Pro Slavery Racist Confederates did this exact same thing for a spell after the Civil War…..AND this “creep of no moral fiber” slept with a married woman with children too!!

Again, you get what you vote for.

  33. Robert G Polo on February 19, 2025 4:13 PM

This is what voting for democrats gets you. This AG has one foot in jail.

  34. R.Champ on February 19, 2025 4:26 PM

The hypocrisy is mind bending. Recall how many times the whacked out lefties used to say when they were using law fare on Trump. “no one is above the law”

  35. Sassy on February 19, 2025 7:13 PM

Seems like there is something to hide

  36. Maine Patriot woman on February 22, 2025 8:28 AM

Well, we know Frey needs a spanking like Janet got.

  37. Bill Bellinger on February 22, 2025 2:27 PM

You people are idiots. The reason employees of any company or organization are advised to not speak to investigators without consulting with counsel is because *internal counsel is on your side; the investigators are not.”

Federal investigations are no joke–especially when they’re politically motivated. You could end up being the person they decide to make an example of. It’s happened before, and it’ll happen again.

So, don’t be stupid. Consult legal counsel before talking to investigators, just like you would (or should) consult a lawyer before talking to the cops.
