An ex-Portland Press Herald scribe who calls Trump “an authoritarian threat” will soon be joined on a Maine stage by a co-conspirator.
After all, Colin Woodard and Rachel Maddow were already joined – at the hip – in their shared venom for the Republican president.
So their joint appearance Saturday night at the State Theater in Portland will be just more of the same.
Go ahead, call it Trump Bashing 2.0.
Last month, The Rachel Maddow Show hosted First District Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-ME) to rail against the Trump administration’s recent actions in Maine, which it characterized as “petty and vindictive.”
Unsurprisingly, the MSNBC headliner will get a hero’s welcome on Saturday in the Peoples’ Republic of Portland. The Press Herald was proud to report that Maddow’s appearance sold out once she announced it on her show.
“Maddow has hosted the Emmy-winning ‘The Rachel Maddow Show’ since 2008,” the paper trumpeted in promoting her Maine trip.
Truth to power: – the subliminal purpose of Maddow’s and Woodard’s twin appearance is so they can each hawk their “books” to the Trump detractors.
“I’ll be interviewing her on stage about Prequel, her book on the Nazi propaganda and influence campaign in the United States in 1930s, which found many willing allies,” Woodard says on his website.
“The show, co-hosted by Longfellow Books, sold out in minutes, but if you were one of the lucky 400, come say hi,” the avuncular Colin added. “I’ll be signing some of my books for Longfellow after the show.”
Translation: “‘Come say hi’ so you can buy our books.”
Woodard the self-appointed phenom – who brags he once almost got a Pulitzer – also does something real journalists don’t do – blocks critics on Twitter.
So much for transparency, eh? Heck that kind of behavior almost sounds like an “authoritarian threat.”
