FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino vowed to crack down on government corruption and root out Chinese Communist Party (CCP) influence schemes on Sunday in response to the additional charges filed against a New York official who allegedly acted as an unregistered CCP agent and defrauded state taxpayers.

“The (FBI) Director (Kash Patel) and I are absolutely committed to cleaning up the plague of public corruption. We are also committed to weeding out CCP scheming and illicit influence campaigns. Corrupt public officials are on notice, this case is not even the beginning of the beginning. You know who you are. So do we,” said Bongino on X.
“And, I’ll say again, we are absolutely NOT asking for anyone’s ‘trust.’ We are in the results business, and the trust will come as the results materialize. Bookmark this tweet. You’ll see. God bless America, and all those who defend Her,” he added.
The statement came in response to additional charges being filed against Chinese immigrant and New York State employee Linda Sun, 41, who served as Deputy Chief Diversity Officer under former Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) and deputy chief-of-staff to current Governor Kathy Hochul (D).
In 2024, Sun was arrested along with her husband, Chris Hu, 40, and charged with allegedly working as an undisclosed CCP agent, laundering money for the foreign adversarial nation, receiving millions of dollars in undisclosed kickbacks, along with other benefits for her pro-CCP activities, and visa fraud.
On Thursday, a federal grand jury in Brooklyn filed additional charges against Sun and her husband.
Sun allegedly used her position during the COVID-19 pandemic to award New York contracts for personal protective equipment (PPE) procurement for devices such as masks, to companies located in China, and companies with undisclosed ties to her and her husband.
She allegedly altered a recommendation for components from the CCP, claiming that they recommended procurement from the Cousin Company, which was actually run by her cousins, and the Associate Company, operated by her husband and his business partner.
She failed to disclose those associations prior to awarding the contracts, and Sun and Hu allegedly received millions of dollars in kickbacks from the Cousin Company, which they reportedly failed to disclose as income or pay taxes on.
Hu allegedly received $8,029,741 from the taxpayer contracts obtained by his wife.
“As alleged, Linda Sun not only acted as unregistered agent of the government of the People’s Republic of China, but also enriched herself to the tune of millions of dollars when New York State was at its most vulnerable at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said United States Attorney Nocella.
“When masks, gloves, and other protective supplies were hard to find, Sun abused her position of trust to steer contracts to her associates so that she and her husband could share in the profits. We demand better from our public servants, and this Office will continue to hold accountable public officials who enrich themselves at the expense of the New York taxpayers,” she added.
