A New York man out on probation for a bank robbery was arrested on drug charges on Monday after the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) raided a home in Oakland and found large amounts of cocaine and fentanyl.
According to the MDEA, the arrest comes as the result of a two-month investigation by the MDEA and Oakland Police Department into suspected drug trafficking taking place at 65 Lakeview Drive in Oakland.
MDEA agents, along with Oakland and Waterville Police, executed a search warrant at the Lakeview Drive residence on Monday.
Authorities seized a total of 650 grams of cocaine HCL, 13.2 grams of cocaine base (crack cocaine), 20.9 grams of fentanyl and $3,674 cash in suspected drug proceeds.
MDEA estimated the total combined street value of the illegal drugs at $68,950.
During the search, a suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Brandon Seegars of Bronx, N.Y., jumped out of a window of the residence and attempted to escape.
Seegars was located with the assistance of two Waterville Police K-9s, and was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking of Schedule W drugs.
Seegars was taken to the Kennebec County Jail where is bail was set at $75,000. He is awaiting an initial court appearance.
According to the MDEA, Seegars is also on federal probation out of New Jersey for a Hobbs Act crime of armed bank robbery. The Hobbs Act prohibits robbery and extortion that affects interstate commerce.
The MDEA says their investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
