A Dixmont woman was arrested on multiple felony counts on Monday after allegedly forcing her way into a home and stealing a hunting rifle, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly after 11:20 a.m. on Monday, authorities received a 911 call from a woman at a residence on North Road in Dixmont reporting that an unknown female subject was trying to force her way into the home.
The female subject, later identified as 67-year-old Renee Cohen of Dixmont, was allegedly successful in forcing her way inside, where the homeowner was alone with her infant, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Upon arrival at the scene, a deputy located Cohen across the street from the residence.
Shortly after, the homeowner’s significant other arrive at the home and checked the area that Cohen had gained access to, discovering that a hunting rifle was missing.
Penobscot County deputies then called the Maine Warden Service to request a K9 search of the area for the missing rifle.
Maine Warden Service K9 Handler Warden Voter and K9 Koda were able to locate the hunting rifle concealed in the woods between the victims’ house and the property where the suspect was located.
Renee Cohen was arrested and charged with Class C burglary and Class B theft of a firearm, and was taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Maine Warden Service for their assistance in their investigation, and said additional charged may be pending against Cohen or others.
