A Rockland woman has been charged with her second Operating Under the Influence (OUI) offense after leading police on a slow speed chase during which she reportedly almost struck several vehicles.
Rockland Police say that just before 9 p.m. on Friday, officers were alerted to a vehicle being operated erratically along Old County Road, reportedly nearly striking several vehicles head-on.
Rockland Police officers were able to locate the vehicle as it traveled down Old County Road into Rockland, and observed the vehicle driving in the wrong lane.
Police say the operator failed to stop and led officers on a slow-speed pursuit, during which the suspect vehicle allegedly also failed to stop for a stop light and almost struck a police cruiser.
The suspect vehicle eventually came to a stop after a minor collision with an unoccupied parked car.
The operator of the vehicle, 62-year-old Laurie Hunt of Rockland, was taken into custody without incident.
Hunt was charged with OUI, failure to stop for law enforcement, driving to endanger and several civil traffic violations. Rockland Police say the OUI charge is Hunt’s second offense.
A second OUI offense is a Class D crime that carries a minimum fine of $700, a minimum prison sentence of seven days, and a court-ordered suspension of a driver’s license for three years.
“Rockland Police would like to remind folks, never get behind the wheel impaired,” Rockland Police said in a Saturday post to social media.
“Year to date, Rockland Police have made 27 arrests for OUI and will continue to proactively enforce OUI laws keep our roads safe for everyone,” they said.
