The Maine State Police arrested a Carrabassett Valley man on Monday; he allegedly shot and killed a 23-year-old Connecticut woman.

On Sunday at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Franklin County Regional Communications Center received a call reporting that a woman had been shot in Carrabassett Valley.

First responders arrived to discover Makayla Rose Desantis, 23, of Colchester, Connecticut, severely injured and suffering from a gunshot wound.

She was transported by ambulance to the  MaineHealth Franklin Hospital in Farmington.

She was then transferred to the Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Investigators from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit found that Desantis was allegedly shot at home on Left Bank in Carrabassett Valley.

On Monday, law enforcement arrested Austin Doucette, 24, of Carrabassett Valley and charged him with the murder of Desantis.

The Maine State Police said that more information will be released as it becomes appropriate to do so.

Currently, they have provided no information on the circumstances leading up to the alleged shooting.

A spokesperson for the Sugarloaf Ski Resort in Carrabassett Valley reportedly confirmed that both the victim and shooter worked at the ski resort.
