The Bangor Police Department arrested a Levant woman on Thursday after she allegedly broke into a home and slept on the bed. Further investigation identified her as the same suspect who allegedly defecated on the floor of an apartment building last week.

At approximately 7:12 a.m., a Bangor officer responded to a call reporting a trespasser in a Union Street residence.

The victim reported that he came home from work to discover a woman sleeping in his bed.

Officers spoke with the homeowner and the woman, Darcelle Howard, 55, of Levant, and took the woman into custody.

She was transported to the Penobscot County Jail and charged with criminal trespass and violation of conditions of release.

Later the same day, a property manager reached out to police after recognizing Howard from her mugshot on the Penobscot County Jail website.

The property manager reported that she was involved in an incident he had previously reported to police that took place on August 11.

He reported that the woman had entered the building, stolen clothing from a resident, and defecated on the rug in the building’s entryway.

Investigation into those allegations led to additional charges against Howard of burglary of a dwelling, criminal mischief, theft by unauthorized taking, and violation of conditions of release.
