The Lincoln Sheriff’s Department arrested a Whitefield man on Thursday following a ten-hour standoff after the suspect allegedly fled police on an ATV and took shelter in a nearby residence.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., Lincoln deputies attempted to arrest Robert D. Willett, 51, of Tide Hill Road in Whitefield, on an active arrest warrant charging him with terrorizing following an incident in Auburn.
The Sheriff’s Department also applied for and received a search warrant for Willett’s home to seize his firearms and other evidence.
When deputies arrived on scene, Willett allegedly fled in an ATV and took refuge in a nearby residence.
Deputies contacted him over the phone and attempted to convince him to surrender.
Willett allegedly escalated his behavior and made violent threats against officers.
Deputies contacted the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team for assistance and deployed an aerial drone to provide situational awareness.
After nearly ten hours of negotiations, Willett surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
He was transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail, where he was charged in connection with his warrant and given additional charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and creating a police standoff.
After the arrest, deputies executed a search on Willett’s residence and applied for and received a Yellow Flag Weapons Restriction Order, preventing Willett from possessing firearms.
Head Tide Road in Whitefield was closed for an extended period of time during the incident.
