Not a good idea to stop on the main road into Acadia or Baxter to bear-watch.
No, not because the bear might see you as dinner.
But because traffic backs up when a camera-toting naturalist puts his RV in park and everyone behind him sits…and…steams.
It just happened in a national park, Yosemite, and motorists caught in the ensuing hour-long traffic jam went viral on the Internet.
“Who are you to think you can just park in the road, get out and take pictures?” asked one frustrated park motorist. “We are not on vacation with you. We have places to go and things to do.”
The chief critic posting the angry review goes by the Instagram screen name “TouronsOfYellowstone” (even though in this case the traffic jam was in Yosemite not Yellowstone).
“The touron (Turista stultus) is a common invasive species found in national parks nationwide, especially around peak seasons,” he explained.
“With their vulgar displays and complete absence of survival instinct, they’re pretty easy to spot.”
“Tourons” is the poster’s version of “tourists” + “morons” who go on park visits and, yah, park in the middle of the road to watch wildlife.
“Turista stultus.”
Funny stuff.
Unless you get stuck behind one.
“In this instance, the footage of the tourons shows one of their defining features: complete disregard for other visitors,” Yahoo.com reported. “The clips show a long line of traffic caused by people getting out of their cars to observe wildlife.”
