The Portland Police Department responded on Friday to a third bank robbery in the city this month, leading to the arrest of a man who allegedly left the University Credit Union with $100 in stolen funds.

At around 2:07 p.m., police responded to reports of an alleged robbery at 391 Forest Avenue at the University Credit Union.
The suspect, Kenneth Morey Jr., 64, of Portland, allegedly entered the bank and escaped with just $100 in cash without displaying a weapon. He then reportedly fled along Forest Ave.
Using surveillance footage, police were able to apprehend Morey later on Friday. After the arrest, law enforcement determined that Morey had also allegedly stolen a vehicle earlier in the week.
He faces charges of robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and theft, and was transported to the Cumberland County Jail.
The incident came after two other bank robberies in Portland earlier this month, which appeared to be carried out by the same alleged suspect.
On August 2, a man allegedly robbed the Bangor Savings Bank at 1071 Brighton Avenue. Another robbery took place less than a week later at the Kennebec Savings Bank at 53 Baxter Boulevard.
The suspects in those alleged robberies appeared to be wearing some of the same clothes and used the same method, though the police refused to comment on whether the two incidents were related.
The Maine Wire reached out to the Portland Police Department, asking whether Morey is believed to be involved in either of the previous robbery incidents.
“(There is) no connection that we are aware of at this time,” said Brad Nadeau, the Portland Police Department’s Public Information Officer.
