Half a century for kids.
That’s the remarkable run so far for a group of otherwise-tough, leather-vested, tattooed guys – and gals – who, let’s face it, are secretly kids at heart.
Since 1975, United Bikers of Maine has been thinking of needy kids so they’ll have plenty of cool stuff under the Christmas tree.
It’s never too early for the bikers to start thinking of ways to bring Santa to the tots of the Pine Tree State.
So in keeping with the early-bird theme, the bikers’ Kennebec County Chapter will be hosting a “pre-event gathering” to the annual Toy Run at 9 a.m. on Sept. 7 at Elm Plaza in Waterville.
The event will feature donuts and coffee, bikes donated by Darling’s, toys donated by the Waterville Elks, and information on membership opportunities.
Donuts, coffee and toys – yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. (And he rides a bike!)
“Partnering with the Maine Children’s Home and the Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, this gathering offers riders and community members a chance to connect and celebrate before the Toy Run begins,” the bikers announced.
“Each year, the Toy Run helps provide toys and holiday cheer to children and families across Maine.”
United Bikers of Maine has been supporting community causes since 1975, now marking its 50th year thinking of kids.
The service-oriented group’s motto is “Let Those Who Ride Decide – Education Not Legislation.”
The group describes itself as “an organization dedicated to all motorcyclists and motorcycle rights.”
And most important, making sure all kids have something to open on Christmas.
