The Lewiston District Court handed down a lenient sentence after Anthony Torres, 21, of Auburn, pleaded guilty on Thursday to two counts of domestic violence, reckless conduct with a firearm and one count of possessing a firearm as a prohibited person.
Torres’ charges stemmed from two separate shooting incidents: one on Yagger Road in Norway on September 5, which initially went unreported, and another on Willow Street in Auburn on September 10.
In both incidents, Torres fired multiple rounds in the direction of his girlfriend.
He was arrested for the shootings on September 17 after police received reports of the September 10 shooting. During an investigation spanning multiple search warrants and witness interviews, police identified Torres as the suspect.
The investigation also led police to determine that Torres was responsible for the unreported Norway shooting, and the Norway Police Department joined that investigation.
At the time of the arrest, Torres was out on probation following an unrelated conviction.
He was sentenced last week to seven years in prison, with all but three years suspended, followed by four years of probation for his domestic violence and firearm charges.
He was also sentenced to an additional nine months in prison for the probation violation.
Despite a criminal history and two shooting incidents within the span of a single week, Torres will be walking free in under four years.
