At approximately 3:21 a.m., the Maine State Police were notified of a burglar alarm activation at Northeastern Firearms at 868 Auburn Road in Turner.
Police notified the Androscoggin Sheriff’s Department and dispatched deputies.
Deputies arrived at the firearm dealer and allegedly found evidence of an attempted burglary but determined that the would-be thieves were unable to gain entry.
Minutes after deputies were dispatched to Northeastern Firearms, at approximately 3:35 a.m., Corporal Gregory Pealatere was responding to the burglar alarm call when he apparently witnessed a vehicle without headlights leaving the parking lot of Vacationland Cannabis at 1520 Auburn Road in Turner.
The cannabis shop was closed at the time, and the vehicle allegedly began to flee from Deputy Pealatere.
He identified the vehicle as a gray 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning, but he lost sight of the vehicle near the intersection of Main Street and Turner Center Road in Turner.
After Pealatere spotted the vehicle leaving the cannabis shop, deputies investigated and allegedly discovered that the business had been burglarized.
An undisclosed amount of merchandise had allegedly been stolen.
Deputies then discovered, using the license plate from the truck, that it had been reported stolen from a Marston Hill Road residence in Auburn.
The Westbrook Police Department later recovered the vehicle near 118 Pennell Street in Westbrook.
Earlier that morning, at around 1:08 a.m., deputies responded to First Due Firearms at 62 Greene Street in Sabattus for an attempted burglary. That incident is being investigated by the Sabattus Police Department, but it is believed to be related.
Investigators obtained video footage of two masked suspects believed to be involved in the alleged burglaries.
Both were described as slender white men, one wearing a North Face jacket with black athletic pants and black sneakers, and the other with a gray zip-up Alaskan Hardgear jacket with the logo “Spang Builders” embroidered on the left chest, blue sweatpants, and red sneakers with white soles.
Both suspects were masked.
Spang Builders is a Kennebunkport-based contracting company.
Investigators have recovered physical evidence from the scenes and stolen vehicle.
They requested that members of the public reach out if they have any information on the identities of the suspects.
