LEWISTON, Maine – Federal immigration authorities made an arrest Monday morning in Lewiston during an enforcement operation in the parking lot of Maine Immigrant and Refugee Services, or MEIRS, on Bartlett Street.

According to a statement attributed to an ICE spokesperson, ICE Boston arrested Christian Kalombo, described as an illegal alien from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, during targeted enforcement operations in Lewiston on March 23.

ICE said Kalombo entered the United States legally on Dec. 9, 2022, under a visitor visa that allowed him to remain in the country for six months. Authorities said he then remained in the United States illegally for nearly three years.

“The fact of the matter is those who are in our country illegally have a choice, they can leave the country voluntarily or be arrested and deported. The United States taxpayer is generously offering free flights and $2,600 to illegal aliens who self-deport using the CBP Home App. If they leave now, they preserve the potential opportunity to come back the legal, right way. The choice is theirs,” the spokesperson said.

It is not all of them, but it does seem to be too many of them.
