A South Portland man faces up to 20 years in prison after he pleaded guilty on Thursday to cocaine trafficking charges after selling to undercover Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) investigators three times.
Between February and March 2024, an MDEA posing as a drug trafficker purchased cocaine from Lynel Moultrie, 43, of South Portland on “at least” three occasions.
Investigators recorded the transactions, and Moultrie was arrested. Law enforcement searched 857 Broadway #2 and 112 Colin Kelly Rd. in South Portland for evidence.
Following his guilty plea, Moultrie faces up to 20 years in prison, a minimum of three years of supervised release, and up to $1 million in fines.
The Maine Wire previously reported on Moultrie at the time of his arrest in 2024 and found that he had an extensive criminal history going back to at least 2003, when he was arrested for theft in Brunswick and on drug charges in Portland.
Despite a criminal history including years’ worth of arrests and convictions, he received a $20,833 loan under the federal COVID-19 Payroll Protection Program (PPP) for “Harvest Small Business Finance, LLC” for which he was the only employee.
