The Wiscasset Police Department arrested a man on arson and attempted murder charges on Monday after he allegedly tried to set his girlfriend on fire in bed.

The Wiscasset Police Department responded to 154 Beechnut Hill Road for reports of an intentionally set fire inside the home.

Investigators arrived and allegedly determined that the homeowner, Terry Couture, 41, of Wiscasset, intentionally set a bed on fire with both himself and his girlfriend in it following a disagreement.

The fire was extinguished before either of them was injured.

Following the investigation, police arrested Couture on charges of attempted murder, arson, domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, and aggravated criminal mischief.

He was transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail.

The Wiscasset Fire Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office assisted in the investigation.
